Brief biography of Pete Townshend

Pete was born on May 19,1945 in Chiswick to
Cliff and Betty Townshend.  Both were musicians.
In 1965 The Who's first single "I Cant Explain" written by,
Townshend was their first hit.

During the 70's Pete broke away from The Who with his
first solo album in 1972 "Who Came First"
And 1976 "Rough Mix" with Ronnie Lane.
The 80's brought such albums as "Empty Glass",
"All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes",
"Scoop", "Another Scoop" And "White City".

Also in 1980 Pete started his own book store;
Eel Pie Press and his recording studio.
He also worked with Faber and Faber.
This is where he wrote his 1985 novel "Horses Neck".

In 1986 the "Iron Man" album was put out based on
the novel by Ted Huges.
During this time frame Pete decided to
work on a musical for Tommy .

Tommy was first tried in California in 1992.
It then went to Broadway in 1993.
Tommy won 5 Tonys
Townshend won one of these tonys
for best musical score.

In 93 Pete released "Psycoderilect"
and toured briefly.

In March of 96 Tommy hit London's West End,
And Townshend's "Best Of"  CD came out that same year.
In 1998 Pete plays at the "Day In The Garden" Festival in New York.

"Lifehouse Chronicles was released in February of 2000.
Also released in that year were the three live albums The Fillmore,
The Empire and Sadler's Wells and the Avatar box set.
The Avitar box set sold out quickly which prompted the release of Jai Baba.
